Community Essentials Program
COTA Foundation Community Essentials Program helps families access basic necessities during times of financial hardship or unexpected challenges.
Many families struggle to afford essential items such as nutritious food, clothing, hygiene products, and household supplies. Through this program, we work to provide practical support that helps individuals and families meet their immediate needs while building stronger, more resilient communities.
Our goal is simple: ensure that families have access to essential resources when they need them most.
What We Provide
Families facing financial difficulties often need support beyond food assistance. We provide essential household items that help create a safer and more stable living environment.
Hot Meals
We support individuals and families by helping provide access to nutritious meals and food assistance. Our meal support initiatives are designed to help reduce food insecurity and ensure community members have access to basic nourishment.
Clothing Assistance
We provide clothing support to individuals and families who may need additional resources. By helping provide essential clothing items, we aim to support dignity, comfort, and confidence within our community.
Hygiene Kits
Access to personal care products is an important part of maintaining health and wellbeing. Through hygiene support, we help provide essential items that families may otherwise struggle to afford.
Household Essentials
Families facing financial difficulties often need support beyond food assistance. We provide essential household items that help create a safer and more stable living environment.
How the Program Works
Through community support, donations, and volunteers, COTA Foundation identifies opportunities to assist families experiencing immediate needs.
Support may include:
- Providing essential resources directly to families
- Organizing community assistance initiatives
- Partnering with individuals and organizations who share our mission
- Connecting families with available support resources

Where Our Supplies Come From
We do not buy everything we hand out. Local organizations donate goods and we pass them on to families.
Hilo Coast United Church of Christ has donated sweaters, shoes, shirts, socks, jackets and hygiene items to COTA Foundation for distribution to people experiencing homelessness and anyone else in need, and has agreed to keep supplying items as they are needed.
